This moss green moss is commonly found growing in large clumps On trees, and In damp forests.
It is giant, growing up to 1.2 feet (36 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is slightly light; it struggles more than most during dry spells.
When mature, emerald heart-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release millions of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is overwhelmingly resistant to fire damage.
