This deep purple moss is commonly found blanketing large areas On trees.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are slow to spread and grow, and is very frail; it dislikes being stepped on.
When mature, emerald V-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release dozens of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
The leaves have medicinal properties.
