Blood Trumpet
Flower type: Annual (Sheds its leaves in winter)This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its green stem is very thick and straight, and the tiny, yellow leaves are circular with tattered edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
Each stem splits 4 to 10 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide, with petals that are pastel red at the sides and blood red at the center. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet with 27 tightly layered, narrow petals. They fall easily.
It has a faint scent that smells like lemon, and it has an average amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is visited by a large variety of them.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It can survive a very long time without water.
