Copper Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in thick, cracked, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the hard wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with very large amounts of huge, needle-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are purple on the sides and silver at the center.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, red blossoms with kidney-shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like cinnamon.

In early summer it produces large, asymmetrical fruit. The hairy pastel red skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the crunchy purple flesh is overwhelmingly bitter and syrupy. The olive seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
