Blackberry Glow

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 173 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of knobbly, crooked stems covered in hard, rough, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches trail down to the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, pleated, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are generally brilliant green, tough and clammy.

In mid-summer it produces dozens of tiny, crimson blossoms with 9 crescent-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like lemon.

In early winter long, straight fruits ripen. The soft dull orange skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is sour, and the slightly crunchy gold flesh is bland and very juicy. The lime seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.
