Bluefruit Tree

This giant fruit tree grows up to 73 feet (22.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, crooked trunk covered in hard, ridged, dark brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pine-coloured.

The sparse patches of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of miniature, circular leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are brown on the sides and blue at the center.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, hazel blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like musk.

In late summer it produces , spherical fruit. The rubbery cream skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is bitter, and the slightly crunchy brown flesh is salty and juicy. The green seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
