Burgundy Moorland Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found growing in tiny clumps In moorlands, and In heathlands.
It is giant, growing up to 1.2 feet (36 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they spread and grow quickly, and is extremely delicate.
When mature, emerald oblong capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release thousands of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.
