Burgundy-fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This large fruit tree grows up to 43 feet (13.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 70 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, twisting trunk covered in delicate, cracked, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is burgundy-brown.

The small bunches of branches are very short and thin and are covered with sparse amounts of small, wispy leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid dark grey or caramel, with hazel patches.

In early spring, it produces balls of medium-sized, pink blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a soft scent that smells like rotten egg.

In late autumn it produces small, pleated fruit. The rubbery red skin is thin and sweet, and the slightly crunchy olive flesh is slightly bitter and very dry. The gold seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It can flourish even in standing water.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
