This lime green moss is commonly found blanketing medium-sized areas On trees, and On rotten logs.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they spread and grow quickly, and is extremely flimsy.
When mature, emerald teardrop-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release millions of spores.

It is often referred to as the most beautiful of all flowers.
