Climbing plant type: Bine (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)This big bine is a steady-growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 331 feet (100.9 meters) and growing as high as 138 feet (42.1 meters). It prefers to grow on trees.
It takes 4 years for the orange-yellow stems to mature, by which point they can have a diameter of 8 inches (20 cm) and are tough and woody.
The wide, rough leaves reach up to 1.0 foot (30 cm) in length. They are generally purple, and have jagged edges.
During late spring, the bine produces large amounts of large ashy red flowers, and during the early summer, after flowering, it produces lots of large berries.
The stems are covered in large spikes.
