Silver Petal
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)This massive flower grows up to 12.3 feet (3.8 meters) tall. Its pink-red stems grow in bunches of 7 and are thick with a curved tip, and the miniature, caramel and moss green leaves are needle-like with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.
2 to 5 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 72 cm (28.3 inches) wide, with petals that are either silver or bright green, with a yellow center. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight sphere. They are very delicate.
It has a powerful scent that smells like a damp log, and it has excessive amounts of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
