Copperberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 43 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in rough, burgundy bark, and inside, the light wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of giant, oval-shaped leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either blue or peach, with dark yellow patches.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, light brown blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like varnish.

In late autumn it produces large, asymmetrical fruit. The crispy light brown skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy olive flesh is sour and dry. The gentle green seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
