Bronzeberry

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 103 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has numerous stocky, wonky stems covered in fine, wrinkled, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright that and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, long, tapering, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are cyan at the bottom and gold with purple dots at the top, light and clammy.

In late spring it produces hundreds of giant, bronze blossoms with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like baby powder.

In mid-autumn tiny circular fruits ripen. The clammy caramel skin is stretchy and bitter, and the crunchy grey flesh is slightly sour and very dry. The black seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.
