Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, wonky trunk covered in thick, waxy, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is dark brown.

The small handful of branches are long and thick and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, thin leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in copper, faded blue and grey varieties.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, dark purple blossoms with long, tapering petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like a man.

In mid-summer it produces very large, long, tapering fruit. The hairy black skin is thin and sour, and the slightly crunchy blood red flesh is sweet and dry. The cream seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
