It takes 14 months for the lime green stems to mature, by which point they can reach a diameter of 3 inches (8 cm) and remain soft and fleshy.
The very thin, fuzzy leaves reach up to 1.6 feet (48 cm) in length. They are solid gentle orange or blood red, with orange edges, and have wavy edges.
During late spring, the vine produces lots of giant dark grey flowers.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
It can survive a very long time without water.
