Coniapple Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This big fruit tree grows up to 27 feet (8.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, crooked trunk covered in thin, ridged, yellow bark, and inside, the soft wood is gray.

The thick clumps of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of small, very thick leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in hazel and azure varieties.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of tiny, amber blossoms with umbrella-shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like mint.

In early summer it produces very large, stiff, pointed fruit. The smooth blood red skin is delicate and slightly sour, and the crunchy muted orange flesh is sweet and oily. The dark grey seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
