Ash Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 17 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in silky, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is dark brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of miniature, stiff, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are lime and yellow.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of large, brown blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intense scent that smells like ashes.

In early autumn it produces tiny, stiff, pointed fruit. The clammy cream skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy olive flesh is spicy and very dry. The dark grey seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
