Caramel Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 32 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in thick, rough, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is black with white speckles.

The tangled mess of branches are very long and thick and are covered with small bunches of giant, thick leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid peach with lilac lines.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, blood red blossoms with 5 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a powerful scent that smells like varnish.

In late summer it produces tiny, wide fruit. The leathery blue skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy caramel flesh is salty and powdery. The caramel seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
