Copperbloom

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, curved trunk covered in fine, waxy, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is pale brown.

The small bunches of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of small, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either grey or brown, with yellow zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of large, blood red blossoms with 3 pointed petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like sweat.

In mid-autumn it produces , oval fruit. The fuzzy grey skin is tough and inedible, and the very soft muted orange flesh is bitter and spicy and very juicy. The yellow seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
