Copper

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 38 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several branched, twisting stems covered in wrinkled, silver bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches trail down towards the ground that and are covered with very large amounts of large, long, tapering, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are copper with blue tips, resilient and rough.

In early spring it produces lots of giant, slate blossoms with V-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like apple.

In early winter tiny oval fruits ripen. The sticky slate skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is very salty, and the crunchy indigo flesh is spicy and oily. The orange seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.
