Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This large fruit tree grows up to 32 feet (9.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the flexible wood is yellow.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small bunches of miniature, perforated leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are blood red and grey.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of small, copper blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

In early summer it produces small, prism-shaped fruit. The rough azure skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft peach flesh is bitter and very dry. The hazel seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is extremely resistant to fire damage.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
