This large flower grows up to 2.0 feet (61 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stem is wispy and straight, and the small, blood red leaves are pleated with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

It has a strong scent that smells like marzipan, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
