Copperbell

This small caudiciform grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The narrow stem is pink-red, and is covered in handfuls of fine, slate, hair-like spines. It has a straight, slender, caramel trunk atop a flat block of rough, exposed roots. The branches are narrow and green and are tall, rigid and upright.

The ripped-edged, very thin leaves are either black or subtle green, with orange splotches. They are flimsy, and easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 2 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with petals that are either dark grey or purple, with a yellow center, grow at the top, reappearing after 5 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a tube made up of many raised, narrow petals. It has a weak scent that smells like honeysuckle.

The caudiciform's skin is very thick, the blue flesh is rough, and the copper sap is thin and causes severe cramps if consumed.
