Smokey Spikefern

This small leaf succulent grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall. The asymmetrical stem is hazel or dark grey, and is dotted with small lime spines. The serrated-edged, stiff, pointed leaves are either slate, or gold with green edges. Small amounts of them grow from the base in a random bunch. The leaves are hardy, but easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 11 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with each petal a slightly different shade of cream, grow at the top, reappearing after 3 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of several raised, round-tipped petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the hazel flesh is rough, and the azure sap is thin and has hallucinogenic properties.
