Burgundy Indigo Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, wavy trunk covered in paper-thin, smooth, burgundy bark, and inside, the dense wood is gray.

The sparse patches of branches are short stubs and are covered with small amounts of small, asymmetrical leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are either slate, or gold with green edges.

In early spring, it produces several large, indigo blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like freshly baked bread.

In early winter it produces , asymmetrical fruit. The rough purple skin is delicate and inedible, and the crunchy gold flesh is salty and powdery. The caramel seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
