Bronzefern

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This big shrub grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 134 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous slender, straight stems covered in thick, wrinkled, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is burgundy.

The branches are short stubs with thousands of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, fan-like, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are amber at the bottom and green with bronze patches at the top, rigid and clammy.

In mid-spring it produces lots of tiny, deep yellow flowers with perforated petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like damp.

The leaves are bland but very healthy.
It can survive a long time without water.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
