Bloodvine

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The very thin stem is yellow-green, and is covered in hundreds of fine, blood red, hair-like spines. The bulbous, dark red trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter. Its pink-red branches trail down towards the ground.

The wavy-edged, stiff, pointed leaves are either aquamarine, or light blue with grey zig-zags. They are strong and flexible, but easily come away when pulled.

It is very slow growing, taking 11 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with green petals and an aquamarine central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 6 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 6 petals in raised layers. It has a weak scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the beige flesh is sticky, and the cyan sap is thin.

It is very rare outside of a particular area.
