Bloodthorn

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 23 feet (7.0 meters) tall. The pleated stem is burgundy, and is covered in thousands of flexible dark grey spines. It has a curved, thin, bright green trunk atop a very thick ball of cracked, exposed roots. The branches are thick and orange-yellow and slate and are long and thin.

The toothed-edged, 5 pointed leaves are blood red and subtle yellow. They are soft and flexible, and easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 19 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are either aquamarine or dark grey, with a yellow center, grow at the top, reappearing once every 8 years. The flower head is largely flat with several tightly layered round-tipped petals. It has a weak scent that smells like rich perfume.

The caudiciform's skin is rock-hard, the blood red flesh is smooth, and the grey sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.
