Bloodvine

This short caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The very thick stem is pink-red, and is covered in handfuls of rigid blood red spines. The angular, lime trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter at the bottom. Its grey branches are very long and slender and start growing at the base the stem.

The copious amounts of jagged-edged, very thick leaves are black at the bottom and lime with purple edges at the top. They are delicate, but easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 11 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with petals that are dark orange on the underside and dull purple on the top, grow at the top, reappearing after 3 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of 14 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a powerful scent that smells like misty mornings.

The caudiciform's skin is delicate, the magenta flesh is slimy, and the beige sap is thin.
