Copperberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, slanted trunk covered in fine, cracked, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale brown.

The sparse amount of branches are very short, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of tiny, spear shaped leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid peach or slate, with brown zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, copper blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In mid-autumn it produces , long, tapering fruit. The leathery amber skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy violet flesh is salty and juicy. The bronze seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
