Copperberry

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 31 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of long and flexible, curved stems covered in thick, ridged, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down to the ground that and are covered with large amounts of giant, very thick, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in black and indigo varieties, flimsy and covered in fine hairs.

In late spring it produces handfuls of medium-sized, indigo blossoms with broad, flat petals. They are sturdy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like cigarette smoke.

In midwinter small circular fruits ripen. The rubbery red skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft violet flesh is salty and syrupy. The silver seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.
