Bloodfire Shrub

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 18 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous slender, wonky stems covered in very thick, wrinkled, silver and white bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches are short and slender with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of large, long, narrow, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in copper and blood red varieties, strong and clammy.

It produces lots of large, blood red flowers with pleated petals. They detach easily and have a faint scent that smells like skunk spray. In early winter it forms medium-sizedred, shelled seeds.
