This colossal fruit tree grows up to 72 feet (21.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 57 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, twisting trunk covered in thick, silky, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is silver.

The small handful of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, long, tapering leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid grey or lime, with vibrant blue streaks.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of giant, vibrant blue blossoms with sickle shaped petals. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like vanilla.

In mid-autumn it produces , needle-like fruit. The soft turquoise skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy green flesh is sweet and very juicy. The crimson seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
