Ashy Orange

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in waxy, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of tiny, asymmetrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are ashy orange at the bottom and cyan with grey patches at the top.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of large, dark grey blossoms with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like ashes.

In early summer it produces small, triangular fruit. The soft pink skin is tough and sweet and salty, and the crunchy green flesh is salty and oily. The orange seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
