Blackberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in delicate, waxy, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is gray.

The branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of giant, kidney-shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are gold and crimson.

In early spring, it produces thousands of large, beige blossoms with 3 crescent-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like vanilla.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, umbrella-shaped fruit. The sticky grey skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy green flesh is salty and very dry. The beige seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
