Copperfruit

This big fruit tree grows up to 24 feet (7.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 54 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in cracked, brown and grey bark, and inside, the flexible wood is white.

The abundance of branches are long and thick and are covered with handfuls of large, needle-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of copper that gradient shifts to peach at the top.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, copper blossoms with 3 heart-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like rotten eggs.

In early winter it produces tiny, long, curved fruit. The crispy silver skin is tough and bitter and sour, and the slightly crunchy orange flesh is spicy and savoury and dry. The crimson seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
