Burgundy Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall. The finger-like stem is burgundy, and is dotted with small brown spines. The bulbous, red trunk can grow to as much as 8 feet (2.4 meters) in diameter. Its bronze branches are short, thin and wispy.

The toothed-edged, sickle shaped leaves are either light brown or violet, with ashy yellow splotches. They are durable, and do not detach easily.

It is steady-growing, taking 5 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are either turquoise or magenta, with a yellow center grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of several petals in raised layers. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like grass cuttings.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the red flesh is sticky, and the copper sap is thin.
