Copper-colored

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 23 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of knobbly, slanted stems covered in cracked, light gray bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down across the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of large, fan-like, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are lime at the bottom and hazel with azure streaks at the top, frail and waxy.

In mid-spring it produces large amounts of small, drab red blossoms with long, narrow petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like damp.

In late autumn stiff, pointed fruits ripen. The smooth white skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is savoury, and the crunchy aquamarine flesh is sweet and very juicy. The blood red seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.
