Copper-colored

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 166 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous knobbly, crooked stems covered in thick, smooth, brown-green speckled bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches are very short and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, very narrow and elongated, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are beige on the edges and ashy orange at the center, delicate and soft.

It produces a handful of large, orange flowers with pleated petals. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like paint. In mid-summer it forms giantaquamarine aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
