Blueberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 40 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, curved trunk covered in wrinkled, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is dark brown.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, needle-like leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in light blue and light blue varieties.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, red blossoms with 9 oval-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like sugar.

In late summer it produces , circular fruit. The smooth beige skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy light blue flesh is salty and oily. The yellow seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
