Bronzeberry

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 64 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in waxy, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow-brown.

The numerous branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of large, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either dark brown or bronze, with black zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces balls of tiny, ashy red blossoms with 6 oblong shaped petals. They fall easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like cotton.

In mid-autumn it produces , perforated fruit. The rough gold skin is thick and edible when cooked; it is overwhelmingly spicy, and the slightly crunchy violet flesh is bitter and sour and syrupy. The orange seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
