Coniwax Tree
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 57 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a flexible, wavy trunk covered in delicate, waxy, light gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is white with black speckles.
The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of large, stiff, pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are grey at the bottom and blue with muted yellow splotches at the top.
In early spring, it produces many balls of small, brown blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a powerful scent that smells like rotten eggs.
In mid-summer it produces very large, cuboid fruit. The rubbery muted purple skin is delicate and inedible, and the soft pink flesh is sweet and bitter and very juicy. The black seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
