Clinging Silverfruit

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 24 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, slanted trunk covered in hard, waxy, silver bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale yellow.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of giant, broad, flat leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are found in bright red, violet and red varieties.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, purple blossoms with spear shaped petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like fish.

In early autumn it produces , slender, 8 pointed fruit. The fuzzy cyan skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft caramel flesh is bitter and sour and very dry. The grey seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
