Crimson Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This small leaf succulent grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall. The stiff, pointed stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in lots of fine, grey, hair-like spines. The irregular-edged, finger-like leaves are aquamarine at the bottom and dark grey with crimson dots at the top. Sparse amounts of them grow from the base like blades of grass. The leaves are fairly frail, and easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 22 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with solid orange petals decorated with black dots and a peach central disk grow at the top, reappearing once every 8 years. The flower head is largely flat with several tightly layered narrow petals. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like grass cuttings.

The leaf succulent's skin is tough, the red flesh is rough, and the peach sap is thin.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
