Crimson Spike

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This short cactus grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall. It splits at the base to form 5 tapering stems. Each stem is lime green, and is covered in large amounts of rigid hazel spines. The round body is orange, and is dotted with small olive spines.

It is slow growing, taking 4 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are white at the sides and brown at the center, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of many tightly layered, narrow petals. It has a faint scent that smells like fermented fruit.

The cactus's skin is very thick, the slate flesh is slimy, and the crimson sap is thin.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
