Copper

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big caudiciform grows up to 91 feet (27.7 meters) tall. The very thin stem is red, and is dotted with small cream spines. The thick, yellow trunk can grow to as much as 91 feet (27.7 meters) in diameter. Its gray-green branches are very long and thin.

The toothed-edged, wide leaves are either copper, or violet with indigo splotches. They are tough, but easily come away when pulled.

It is fast growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with solid magenta petals decorated with peach dots and a silver central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 4 years. The flower head is made up of 18 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight cube. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like meat.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the deep red flesh is sticky, and the dull yellow sap is thin and causes diarrhea if consumed.


It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
