Copperberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, slanted trunk covered in wrinkled, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is yellow.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of large, long, tapering leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are beige at the bottom and dark blue with copper splotches at the top.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, purple blossoms with triangular shaped petals. They fall easily and have a soft scent that smells like ashes.

In late autumn it produces very large, oval fruit. The leathery deep red skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is very savoury, and the crunchy violet flesh is sour and sticky. The dark brown seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
