Orangefruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 43 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, angular trunk covered in very thick, ridged, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is black.

The tangled mess of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, slender, pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are gold on the edges and vibrant orange at the center.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, silver blossoms with long, tapering petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like damp.

In late autumn it produces small, long, tapering fruit. The rubbery subtle blue skin is tough and bitter and salty, and the slightly crunchy purple flesh is sweet and spicy and very dry. The black seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
