Claspberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 29 feet (8.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 56 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, crooked trunk covered in paper-thin, knobbly, dark gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is gray.

The branches are very short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of small, fan-like leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in cream and green varieties.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, red blossoms with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a strong scent that smells like old books.

In late autumn it produces , perforated fruit. The sticky lime skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft caramel flesh is sweet and salty and powdery. The slate seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
The grains are bitter, but very healthy and can be used to make numerous baked goods.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
