Copperfruit

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in delicate, cracked, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very light wood is dark brown.

The branches are long and thin and are covered with handfuls of tiny, thin leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are grey and magenta.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, lilac blossoms with circular petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like sugar.

In early winter it produces , broad, flat fruit. The smooth copper skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy white flesh is sweet and dry. The silver seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
